Joe Mauer, Twins Agree In Principal to 10-year Extension

News first broke of a possible extention between AL MVP Joe Mauer and the Minnesota Twins last Friday, when Dan "Common Man" Cole reported that sources close to Mauer's agent, Ron Shapiro, told Common that a deal would happen "sooner rather than later."

Shapiro, who also was the agent for Kirby Puckett and Cal Ripken Jr, is respected for keeping franchise players with one team rather then moving them around.

With WCCO-4's sports anchor Mark Rosen on the program during Monday's broadcast, Rosen told Cole that an unnamed source told him that Mauer had agreed in principal to a ten-year deal.

Incentives of the contract are still bein finalized, and there is no official contract yet.

Brandon "Tenna-B" Mileski, Common's wingman, asked Rosen on the program if this could possibly be part of a sign-and-trade deal that would send Mauer to the New York Yankees.

Rosen, who brings Joe Mauer his newspaper and slippers in his teeth every morning, simply replied with "What the hell are you talking about?"

Mauer, whose contract is set to expire after this season, has been the butt of many jokes on 1130-AM KFAN on whether or not he'll sign with New York. Doctored photos of Mauer in Yankee pinstipes even appeared on the radio station's website.

The Common Man progrum, as it is affectionately called, has recently been the place to go for breaking news. Common was one of the first people to report that the Twins had signed former Twin killer Jim Thome to a one-year contract.

You can hear the Common Man weekdays from 12-3 on AM-1130 KFAN, or you can listen live at
